Blind Selection Process

We are putting a new meaning to equity.

We recognize the importance of fair and equitable opportunities within the educational sphere. This is why we have made it our goal to eliminate any unconscious biases in our application review process. For the statistically significant rationale behind this decision please see this article from the National Bureau of Economic Research.

01

Personal Information is Separated

While we do request some personal identifying information (name, address, demographics), this information is completely separated from our application review process. The next time this information is seen is after scholarship recipients have been selected in order to send out awards and evaluate BBPLF's outreach.

03

Objective Measurement

We also review purely objective measures of academic achievement or other factors in our application review (GPA, Financial position, etc.). These objective measures will be evaluated separately from the Creative Statement(s).

02

Creative Statements

We are firm believers that creativity is necessary for innovative thinkers and next generation leaders. It also limits subconscious bias present in application reviews of personal statements. As you write your creative statements, don't just think outside of the box...break it!

04

Panel Review

At the final steps of our process, the evaluations of the applicant's (1) Creative Statement(s) and (2) objective measures will be put to a panel review. Based on these factors alone, the panel will independently nominate finalists and scholarship recipients will be decided based on majority decision.
